Lila Downs, Niña Pastori and Soledad receive the award for Best Folk Album

The singer Lila Downs wins the Latin Grammy for Best Folk Album, with the musical production ‘Raíz’, in which the Spanish singer Niño participatesto Pastori and the Argentine Soledad, with whom he went to receive the recognition.

“I want to dedicate this award to my country, Mexico, which is very hurt, as well as Venezuela. These are difficult times for us but we know that we will get ahead if we unite and seek justice,” said the singer-songwriter upon receiving the award.

This was one of the first awards given to nominees who met at a private event at the MGM casino in Las Vegas.

In the pre-broadcast call to tonight’s star ceremony, the Academy hands out about 30 of the 48 awards in various categories.

  • The Mexican singer-songwriter Lila Downs, who announced that she is already preparing her new recording material with some duets, assured that she plans to reschedule for May 2015 the concert that she recently canceled at the National Auditorium due to her busy work schedule.
  • “We canceled, we were going to do a concert in the Auditorium, in November, but now we are planning to do it in May; it turns out that we tour a lot at the same time, so it’s always more important for us to have that contact with the public.
