Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Rap Monster, Jimin, V, and Jungkook. Do these names ring a bell? They are the members of BTS (Bangtan Sonyeondan), a K-pop group that was born on June 13, 2013 and, since then, they have not stopped sweeping. The band already has an extensive musical career: they have two studio albums, five EPS, a single and a compilation album in South Korea. As well as two studio albums, seven singles and a compilation album in Japan.

The boys of BTS accumulate millions of followers on social networks and their fans have even managed to win this boyband the “Top Social Artist” award at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards.   1. Why BTS? Very easy! BTS is the acronym for “Bangtan Sonyeondan” which in Spanish means “Bulletproof Boys”. The band is made up of 7 members (Jeon Jung Kook, Park Jimin, V, Suga, Jin, J-Hope and Rap Monster) and their official colors are black and white.
  2. BTS was born more than 4 years ago: In 2013, Big Hit Entertainment searched all over South Korea to find the best of the best to create a super boy band and from there BTS was born, the K-Pop band that, to this day, it is taking the world by storm.
  3. The original name of the band has changed: In South Korea, BTS is better known as Bangtan Sonyeondan, but in other countries around the world they are also known as Bangtan Boys. In the month of July of this year, the boys revealed a new identity for the United States: “Beyond The Scene” which in Spanish means “Beyond the Scene”.

They have a veritable legion of fans on social media: We’re not exaggerating, the Bangtan Boys are so highly acclaimed and followed on social media that TIME Magazine even put them on its list of the 25 Most Influential People on the Internet. None of the band members have personal social media accounts, but instead they use their group page to continually talk to their fans. BTS has more than 10 million followers on Twitter, more than 5 million on Facebook and Youtube, and more than 6 million on Instagram (if you take time to read this, the numbers may be out of date).

In addition, “Army” means “army” in English and they have chosen this word because, according to the members of the band, their fans are the army that most faithfully and tirelessly fights for them.

They have managed to beat singers like Justin Bieber or Selena Gomez: The BTS boys were nominated at the 2017 Billboard Awards in the category for Best Artist on Social Networks along with other well-known singers in the music industry such as Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande or Shawn Mendes. The Bangtan won the award thanks to the massive votes of all their fans.
  7. First South Korean group to win an American award: It was not enough for them to take away from the Beliebers the award they had won in the last two years. BTS was the first South Korean K-pop group to win a major American award like the Billboard Music Award.
  8. They write and produce their own music: Unlike other groups in the industry, BTS comes from a small company in which they themselves take care of much of the songwriting and production process.

They care about social issues: Most K-pop groups rely on catchy melodies and fun lyrics, but BTS has come out against this trend and has composed songs with a great social charge. For example, “Whalien 52” talks about loneliness, “Change” about politics, and “21st Century Girls” about female empowerment.
  10. They hold the record for the most views for a K-pop music video: BTS set the record for the most views for a K-pop video with “Blood, Sweat, and Tears,” which garnered 9. Millions of visits in less than 24 hours. After this, they broke their own record two more times with “Spring Day” and “Not Today”. “SD” was the fastest K-pop video to reach 20 million views, and “NT” achieved that figure in just three days. Now, with “DNA”, they have made history again: Just as ARMY had proposed, “DNA” broke the record for the K-pop group with the most views of a video in 24 hours: almost 21 million.
  11. They have been the image of well-known brands: In 2015, the prestigious sports brand Puma chose the BTS boys as the image for one of its campaigns.
